Description
It is reported that 1 in 5 women experience a mental health problem during pregnancy or after they have given birth. This includes mental illness existing before pregnancy, as well as illnesses that develop for the first time, or are greatly exacerbated in the perinatal period. These illnesses can be mild, moderate or severe, requiring different kinds of care or treatment. To help women and their families receive the right level of both clinical and/or community-based care and support, a series of Perinatal Mental Health Conversation Workshops took place bringing between statutory and non-statutory services together to talk about how they can work better together to enhance pathways of mental health support for women and their families.
