Description
In recognition of the gaps in knowledge about the health and wellbeing of LGBT+ groups, NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde (NHSGGC) and NHS Lothian commissioned a comprehensive health needs assessment of LGBT+ people in both health board areas. The initial plans for the needs assessment comprised three stages:
1. A literature review
2. Qualitative engagement with LGBT+ people and with staff directly involved in providing services for LGBT+ people
3. Health and wellbeing survey of LGBT+ people
Traci Leven Research was commissioned to conduct the first two stages of the work in 2019.
The findings for the literature review can be found in a separate report, and the findings of the qualitative engagement with 175 LGBT+ people and services and staff supporting LGBT+ communities can be found at: https://www.stor.scot.nhs.uk/handle/11289/580258
The third component of the health needs assessment, a national Scottish survey of LGBT+ people, was intended to take place in the spring of 2020, but this was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It is intended that the nationwide survey will still go ahead in the coming months; however it was recognised that some additional qualitative work would be beneficial in order to explore some of the effects of the pandemic and lockdown on LGBT+ people.
