Description
Project empower has been set up to improve the accessibility, effectiveness and sensitivity of mainstream services in response to the needs of South Asian and Chinese disabled women and/or their carers living in Glasgow. In order to meet the targets, Project Empower felt that it was important to raise awareness of issues faced by South Asian disabled people and carers. Anila Ansari, the South Asian Development Officer of Project Empower presented a series of twelve programmes on Awaz FM which is a Glasgow based South Asian communities radio station. The writing competition was broadcast alongside other programmes from Awaz FM to the South Asian communities. The competition was announced in November 2007 and the deadline for submission of the competition entries was the end of January 2008. The competition was open to anyone as long as the submissions highlighted the issues faced by South Asian disabled people and their carers. The submission could be in various forms, e.g. a poem, short story or essay. The contest entrants had the choice of submitting their entries in different South Asian languages or in English. The participants could write about their own experiences as well as an achievement that could be of inspiration to others.
